Lisa B. Terry, CHPA, CPP

Lisa is a staff consultant. She has been in the law enforcement, security, and emergency management field for more than 25 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science/Criminal Justice from Western Carolina University where she also served as a member of the US Army Reserve Officer Training Corps. She is near completion of a dual master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) and Healthcare Administration (MHA) from Pfeiffer University. She is a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator and a Certified Protection Professional.

Lisa’s professional experience includes five years as a police lieutenant with the North Carolina State University Police and Public Safety Department as well as development of the Campus Police and Public Safety Department at WakeMed Health & Hospitals where she served as Chief for twenty-two years. She also developed the program and served as Chief of Police & Public Safety with Eastern Virginia Medical School and as Director of Hospitals Police, Security, and Transportation at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Most recently, Lisa served as Vice President of Healthcare with for a large contract security services provider and as the Chief Development Officer for a Conflict Management Training organization.

Under Lisa’s leadership, the WakeMed Campus Police & Public Safety Department initially provided police, security, safety, and emergency management to the level one trauma center at the flagship hospital in Raleigh, NC. Throughout her tenure there, the organization and the community requested that the department expand to provide services to the nine other WakeMed locations. Lisa also led the UNC Hospitals Police, Security, and Transportation Department to win the coveted IAHSS “Lindberg Bell” award for the most advanced healthcare police and security department internationally.

Lisa was named Healthcare Security Director of the Year by Campus Safety Magazine. She has also been fortunate to collaborate with some of the country’s greatest minds in healthcare, security, and policing. She shares her knowledge, strategies, and lessons learned for successfully preventing and mitigating violence in her books: “Preventing Violence in the Emergency Department” and “The Active Shooter Response Toolkit for Healthcare Workers.”
