Craig A. Stone, MSAJ

Craig has over 38 years of public safety experience.  He is a staff consultant and currently serves as Associate Vice President and Chief, Campus Safety and Emergency Management Services for a private research university on the east coast.  In his immediate prior position, he served two years as Deputy Director assisting the Director of Public Safety for the City of Columbus, OH. with the management and operations of the Divisions of Police, Fire, and Support Services (Communications, License, Weights, and Measures).  Also, he has over six years of experience leading a university public safety agency, including the flagship public land-grant research universities in Illinois (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and Ohio (The Ohio State University). 

Craig retired from the Columbus, OH Division of Police (CPD) with over 29 years of service, including serving as a lieutenant in Patrol, Staff Inspections, Internal Affairs, and Homeland Security.  He served as an assessor/team lead assessor for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) for 19 years and led CPD as the Accreditation Manager in obtaining three CALEA reaccreditation awards including the “Award with Excellence.”  In addition, he served four years as a subject matter expert and adjunct professor at Franklin University in Columbus, OH. 

As Deputy Director for the City of Columbus, Craig served as a member on the OSU Task Force on Community Safety and Well-Being and the Outreach and Engagement Implementation Team. He served two terms as the President of the State of Ohio Accreditation Resources, which represented 60 law enforcement agencies in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.  He also served two terms as a Commissioner on the Governor of Ohio’s Commission on African American Males and as Chairperson for the Criminal Justice Committee and Member of the Youth Technology Conference Committee.

Craig obtained an M.S. degree in the Administration of Justice from the University of Louisville.  He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute (SPI), 120th Administrative Officers Course; the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), Police Executive Leadership College; International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), Executive Development Institute; and the United Way of Central Ohio, Project Diversity, Board Leadership.  Speaking engagements include numerous conferences such as CALEA, IACLEA, NAACP Ohio State Conference, and the National Homeland Security Conference.
